Guideline for Moving |
|
¨ Preparation is key! Start packing early, and making note of which pieces go into which room; an inventory can make this easy. ¨ Calendar and Plans—Try and have everything set up and planned out just in case something happens. You never want to panic the day of the move, so always have a Plan B or even a Plan C in the event something occurs. ¨ Rooms and Boxes—Packing one room at a time can help stave off confusion, and marking which boxes belong in which room will make moving into your new home even faster ¨ Necessities—Make sure you pack enough clothes and necessities for a few days, so you won’t have to go searching for specific boxes. ¨ Wardrobes—Our company provides free wardrobes with your move, so packing your clothes becomes a much simpler process! ¨ “Special” boxes– Select a few boxes that should be opened first as soon as you move to your new location, especially if they are filled with necessities, items with value, or important documents; mark them and make sure they are the last boxes to be taken out of your old home ¨ Box Placement—Heavier boxes should be placed at the bottom of a stack, while lighter boxes should be placed at the top. ¨ Don’t rush! The more focused you are about packing, the easier it will be to organize everything before and after the move. ¨ Electronics—Try and take pictures of wiring and how everything is hooked up, so that putting everything back together becomes much simpler. Also, making sure cords are tied up and organized will eliminate having to deal with knots and tangled wires. ¨ Getting the word out—Cancel services (newspaper deliveries, house help, etc.) and set up services (for your new home) a week in advance. Filing a change of address at the post office is also a good idea (at least a month in advance). ¨ Moving with the Kids—If possible, let the kids pick their own room, and allow them to settle in first; moving can be particularly difficult for younger children, so allowing them to settle into a new comfort zone will decrease their stress, and yours, as well. ¨ Food and Drink—On the day of the move, make sure you have plenty of food and refreshments, so that everyone can be working at full pace, and no one gets fatigued or weary. ¨ Cell Phones and Directions—Having directions and waypoints ready, as well as giving everyone your contact number the day of the move will make getting lost or getting separated a less troublesome issue. ¨ Unpacking—Just like packing, make sure everything is sorted out so that you are able to open boxes and just place them within the coordinated room |
